Joy of Jazz - Bill Buchman "Art of Jazz"

Joy of Jazz at the Venice Gazebo is a FREE concert and is co-sponsored by the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. Bill Buchman, jazz and blues performer and an award winning artist, studied piano at the NE Conservatory of Music, receiving his Bachelor and Master of Music. Bill's "Art of Jazz group features top players doing inspiring contemporary jazz, latin, boogie woogie, blues, New Orleans swing and more." Sextet features Dave DeWitt, Peter Barenbregge, Lenny Balistreri, Rob Fors and Benetsito Campoverde on the congas.

Jazz at Two - Kitt Moran Quartet

Unitarian Universalist Church, 3975 Fruitville Road, Sarasota, FL

Kitt and Mike Moran performed in the top jazz clubs in NYC and New Jersey including many Atlantic City casinos. Kitt was a regular at Merv Griffin’s Resorts Hotel for eight years. They perform regularly in Sarasota, Venice and Port Charlotte. The quartet also features Dominic Mancini, bass & Dane Hassan, drums. Kitt is also a playwright and an award winning artist.

Jazz at Two - Synia Carroll with Billy Marcus Trio

Synia draws her inspiration from the jazz legends of the 40s, 50s, 60s. Hints of Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday and Nancy Wilson can be heard whether singing a ballad or up tempo swing number. Joining Synia is the Billy Marcus Trio featuring Billy Marcus on piano, Don Mopsick, bass and Stephen Bucholtz, drums.

Jazz at Two - GREG ABATE with Michael Royal

Greg Abate on sax and flute, is a composer and international recording artist. He has traveled the globe performing with top jazz artists. He played concerts and festivals throughout the USA, Canada, in the UK, in Europe and in Moscow and Georgia, Russia.

Michael Royal has performed extensively throughout North America, Europe and Asia. He has collaborated with many artists, includin g Red Rodney, Mel Lewis, Clifford Jordan, John LaPorta, Larry Coryell, Ira Sullivan, Mark Murphy and many others.

Greta Matassa in Concert

Greta Matassa, one of the top jazz vocalists in the Seattle area has been named Northwest "vocalist of the year" seven times. She has performed at Dizzy's Club at Lincoln Center and in New Orleans and has recently toured Russia, Singapore, Hawaii and Japan. Joining Greta are Clipper Anderson, bass; internationally renowned Jeff Rupert, tenor sax and Mark Feinman, drums.

Jazz at Two - DAVID PRUYN Quartet

New Orleans native, David Pruyn is a multi talented musician playing drums and trumpet, also sings. During a career spanning over 40 years, he has worked in musical theatre (including Broadway), studios, TV, film, with big bands, cruises, clubs and concert stage. He has worked with as long list of top jazz artists and performs with big bands and concert orchestras in venues, such as, Ruth Eckerd Hall and the Van Wezel backing artists like Jack Jones, Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme, Rosemary Clooney, Frank Sinatra, Jr, Manhattan Transfer, Michael Feinstein and Harry Connick, Jr, among others.

Valerie is an accomplished vocalist, influenced by Diana Krall, Nancy Wilson, Shirley Horn, Carmen McRae, and Diane Shuur. A multi talented musician, she also plays soprano, alto, tenor and baritone sax, flute, piccolo and clarinet; all extremely well. Ms. Gillespie has played with national icons Chick Corea, Bobby McFerrin, Rosemary Clooney, George Burns, Ben Vereen, Joan Rivers, Ray Charles, Jon Faddis, Steve Allen, Anthony Newley, Natalie Cole & Michael Feinstein. She traveled with the Xavier Cugat Orchestra in the US and Japan. She also performs with the Florida Orchestra and with big band orchestras at Ruth Eckert Hall and the Van Wezel PAC. 21st Annual Giving Hunger the Blues & Jazz on the Bay

Welcome to Giving Hunger The Blues, Sarasota's Preeminent Music Festival. Starting at 12:00 PM (with gates opening at 11:30 so you can grab your spot on the bay) and going through 9:30 PM, rain or shine. Giving Hunger the Blues is proud to present a full day of local, regional and national music on two stages and a selection of the area's most delicious restaurants and food vendors and retail businesses.

LIVE MUSIC is always the main attraction at Giving Hunger the Blues, which always brings phenomenal talent to please the always happy crowd. Previous artists over the years include names such as AC/DC's Brian Johnson, The Allman Brothers Band's Dan Toler, and Rick Derringer, just to name a few.

Our mission is to feed, protect and nurture the kids in our community by providing meals to families in need, especially during the holiday season. Established by the Generoso Foundation in 1996, Giving Hunger the Blues has generated more than $1.6 million with all proceeds of this year’s event going to the Mayors’ Feed the Hungry Program and the Generoso Foundation.

Jazz at Two gets off to a rousing start with a swingin' jazz jam to kick off the Jazz at Two Series. Special thanks to Al Hixon for helping the Jazz Club set up this special opening to this season's Jazz at Two. Al brings his Monday Jazz Jam trio regulars, John Lamb and Billy Marcus for this performance. A number of area musicians and vocalists have been invited to sit in at this closed jam session.
