Brazilian Voyage Quartet is a celebration of Brazil’s rich musical heritage, led by internationally renowned bassist and composer Nilson Matta, a multi-Grammy nominee and Grammy Award winner who has performed and recorded with legendary artists including Joe Henderson, Nancy Wilson, Oscar Castro Neves, João Bosco, Don Pullen and Yo-Yo Ma.

Brazilian Voyage Quartet reflects Matta’s lifelong mission to bridge cultures and genres, inviting audiences into the warmth, complexity, and beauty of Brazilian music.

In this quartet format, Nilson Matta brings together three virtuoso master musicians with whom he has been performing for the past eight years: trumpeter Brian Lynch, master drummer Rafael Barata, and pianist Edsel Gomez.

The program features Nilson Matta’s original compositions alongside selections from the Brazilian songbook. The quartet also pays tribute to the legendary American jazz bassist and composer Charles Mingus, whose groundbreaking music and artistic vision have deeply influenced generations of musicians.
